Genderclown (2019)
This series is of one of my best friends, Esmee. These images originated in a very spontaneous way. Whilst on our trip to France, we found ourselves bored in our apartment one night. We both felt like creating something, so Esmee styled themselves for a photoshoot in the bathroom. It was only later when I realized how well these pictures represent the way both of us view gender norms: something you don’t have to take very seriously or have to take part in.
By ridiculing stereotypes and beauty standards it all becomes more bearable. In the end, no one has the right to define your identity. No one but yourself.
